Best International Personal Finance Blog

The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes of any blog isn’t immediately obvious to most people. That’s why it would probably come as a surprise to anyone who knows me or Jay to hear that we’re actually quite obsessive about organising all the little things that need to happen. Among the lists of zillions of tasks that need to be performed, we like to keep a list of goals. So a week ago, I added “Win best international blog – Plutus Awards” to our list.

The Plutus Awards celebrate the best personal finance blogs out there and offer awards in different categories. I’m pleased and slightly confused to announce that Sterling Effort has made it into the finals of the Best International Personal Finance Blog category. It’s down to us and four other awesome blogs.

When I wrote down that grandiose, even arrogant, goal of winning the award, it was something we were thinking about for the future. I certainly didn’t think we were in the running for the award this year. And I still don’t. However, it’s amazing to be included in such great company, particularly Monevator, another great UK blog which we love.

Jay and I have high hopes for Sterling Effort. We’ve got a whole development roadmap to get this site from what it is today to what we want it to be in the future. We’re aware that this process is going to take years and this is just the beginning so we’re absolutely thrilled to receive this kind of recognition so early on. We didn’t think we even deserved to be mentioned at this point so we never mentioned our secret aspirations for the award. We didn’t campaign for a single vote, so we’re touched that anyone would go out of their way and nominate us. So, to whoever did that, thank you very much.

I’ve got my fingers crossed for you, but even if you don’t win outright, it’s an achievement to have got this far.
